THOR Review I saw this movie at the Camino Real Cinemas in Goleta. I attended this movie with Jennike and Garrett, who were very fun and a great couple to hang out with. Now that we’ve settled in with the mood and where we saw it, lets get to the actual review.
The movie started out great, it’s hard to make a review without producing any spoilers so I’ll be very subjective with my words. The movie started out with comedy, and the comedy was steady through out the entire movie, so the laughter was a great addition to this action packed flick. As the movie went on, you noticed a dramatic change in the feeling of the movie, it went from bad ass kicking ass THOR to sappy love story that made it seem like a Disney movie. Through out the entire showing you were on an emotional roller coaster, you were going up and down and up and down and didn’t know whether it was going to stop, or if the ride was going to be endless. In this case, the roller coaster was endless. I personally don’t really love adding a sappy love story to something that is meant to be god-like and bad ass, the two just don’t fit together.
As the movie went on you started to feel less interaction with the movie, and it felt more comedic than it did action packed or dramatic. They did cast a lot of great actors in this film, actors and actresses such as Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and Chris Hemsworth. They all played their parts respectively and did as what was expected, but Portman also known as “Jane” in the movie, seemed to play her role more than what was needed. I am speculating that it wasn’t her doing it, but more so what the producers wanted her to do. Anthony Hopkins role was superb and I wouldn’t want him to change a thing. He played Odin as well as any other person. He has played in many great films such as Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal and Red Dragon. Odin was wise, peace-keeping and a warm-hearted character who had only good intentions for Thor. Chris Hemsworth was awesome! He looked like a legitimate Thor, but leaning more so to the pretty boy thor. His character looked great as well, and he played the part wonderfully. One of the actors I didn’t mention was Jason Camp, he played an AMAZING role as well. He played as the Einherjar Guard who was also known as the “Gatekeeper”.
The movie had respectable actors, great story behind it, and not enough action. The story they had to work with was endless, it could have been amazing, but I give it a 6-7/10 stars, leaning more towards a 6. The movie was fun to watch, great sound with everything, but it just felt like it progressively got worse over time. The beginning was amazing when they were showing Thor and how how came to be in the story line, and after that point you didn’t see any great action til about midway through or at the very end. In between was just them trying to cling onto Thor and Jane. Hopefully my review was of some form of help to you guys, I’m hoping I’m just not cold-hearted and don’t like the sappy love part of the movies like this. All in all, go see it, don’t just pirate it, it’s worth the $7.50 if you see the matinee’s. Just don’t buy the overpriced popcorn/candy/soda! 😛
